Enabling SMTP Authentication Using Mac OS X Mail.app
#1 Open your mail application ensure that the word "Mail" appears in the menu bar near the upper left-hand corner of the screen.
#2 Click on Mail and select Preferences from the drop-down menu.
#3 Click on the Accounts icon (usually located just to the right of "General").
#4 Select your account with us from the "Accounts" box located in the left pane.
#5 Under "Account Information", near the bottom, find "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).
#6 Click on the drop down box and select Edit Server List...
#7 Make sure you've highlighted our mail server by observing the Server Name column and looking for mail.douglasfast.net or mail.yourdomain.com if we host mail for your domain.
#8 Click on Advanced.
#9 Click on the Authentication drop-down box and select Password.
#10 If your username and password are not already listed here, type in your E-mail address in the User Name field and your password in the Password field.
#11 Click OK.
#12 Close the preferences window. If Mail.app asks you if you would like to save your changes, answer in the affirmative.
#13 Test to ensure you can send mail. If so, you're done!
